Also going home next week is a permission slip for the Natural History Museum on December 8. I do need parent chaperones, so let me know if you are available. Look for the permission slip on Monday!

Nutcracker is December 3rd at North High School. Students should arrive at 6:30 to get makeup and get dressed. Show starts at 7! We expect all students to arrive on time... this is a great traditon at Washington and we're looking forward to a great musical.

Don't forget to send in your pringles cans.

Edible Car Race

We have successfully completed two days of the Edible Car Race! We will be calculating the top three vehicles from each class along with the speed of each car. We had so many fantastic vehicles come to school and I was so pleased with the creativity. Mrs. Stevens even stopped upstairs to visit with the children during the race.

I have posted a few pictures from the day and hope to post a few more later on!

What's new

11/12/08
Lots is new in our world!

Today we had a science presentation from the Natural History Museum on forces and motion. The children participated in several activities that reinforced Newton's 3 Laws of Motion. (click here to get more information)

Monday is our Edible Car Race! Make sure to have your car ready for Monday's class... AND - I need parent (or aunt, uncle, friend, grandparent, etc) help. Please let me know if you're available.

The Nutcracker is coming up soon! All students are to participate in the performance on Wednesday, December 3 at 7pm. We will also perform twice during the school day - once on Tuesday and once on Wednesday. Speaking of the Nutcracker, we will be making a Nutcracker during art time. I am asking for donations of Pringles cans. If you have one (or many), please send them in... every child needs one for our project, and my husband and I can't possibly eat that many pringles!

Continue reading for AR points and practicing those math facts! YAY!

Have a great week:)

Pumpkin Day

Pumpkin Day was a lot of fun! Thank you to Mrs. South and Mrs. Fiebig for volunteering. We had five stations that children visited throughout the day. Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, and Writing. Children worked in groups to measure the weight, circumference, and volume of their pumpkin, they found out interesting facts about the first pumpkin, and observed their pumpkin using hand lenses. Pictures to follow!

This week starts the first week of Quarter 2. Remember to aim high for your 10 AR points (20 if you want to come to the pizza party), record your reading in your reading log, practice your math facts, and learn something new everyday! We'll continue our studies of measurement in math, motion and forces in science, and even start a new novel study this month.

Book It for October is due October 28... I can't wait to see everyone's wonderful projects.

Also, Bradley is leaving our classroom. We'll miss him a lot and wish him lots of luck in his new school!!!

From Kristen and Adam

Hi my name is Kristen and this is my friend Adam and we've done lots of cool stuff in school.

First, we would like to tell you about our meal worms. We got them on the day we had the Chinese feast, isn't that great? We also just let our butterflies go. They were Painted Ladies!

We also had an art teacher come. We made quilts with geometric shapes and our own free form shapes. They all looked awesome and some of them are in the hallway hanging up.

Also Mrs.Van Fossen showed us the site study island and it's really fun. Plus everyone's doing great on study island! Although it helps us learn a lot, we still have fun. You should go on studyisland.com so you can have fun to!!

We've been doing lots of cool experiments with Mrs.Van Fossen. For one we did an experiment with GRAVITY!!! Science is so much fun!

In Social Studies we have been talking about citizenship. Mrs. Domizi has been teaching us a lot about citizenship and it's really fun. Next week we'll be talking about the election. Isn't that great?

We just finished reading the book CRICKET IN TIMES SQUARE by George Shelden. We each did a project on Cricket in Times Square. They were all great!! You should read the book it's really great.

We also had a magic assembly that involved reading. it was awesome!! The man who was doing it did really good tricks. Like this one trick a bowling ball come out of his notebook!!!

We will write back later!!

Written by. Kristen Jesberger and Adam South. Thank you!

Hello from Catharine and Carmen

Hello! This is Catharine & Carmen and this is our school blog! We are starting to learn about gravity. Today we learned about motion, force, friction, and our main subject this week, GRAVITY! In music, we are learning,The Nutcracker. So, we sighed up yesterday and today.

Yesterday, we got our school jobs! I, Carmen got my job the sticker person! And I, Catharine got teacher helper! Guess how many tickets we have! Go ahead guess! Ok we'll tell you, Carmen has 941 and Catharine has 145 tickets.

Today in math, we are starting measurements. They are really fun. A couple weeks ago we had baby caterpillars and about 18 days later they turned into really pretty butterflies ( painted ladies.) At first we thought they were poisonous butterflies. It was so funny! and we watched Bill Nye the Science guy, we also study history. Last week and the week before we had surprise guests for Stump the Teacher.( S.T.T.)The guests were, Mrs. Fiebig, and Mrs. Baek(my mom!).

Near the sink of are classroom, we have meal worms. They sheaded recently. They turn in to beetles. It is the end of the day and stay tuned for our other paragraph(s).

this week

Hi Everyone!

This week has been full of fun events. Monday we started a new spelling program (that is just that - new to both the children and me), we have a math test tomorrow, and the new art teacher comes tomorrow. We have the art teacher four times a year - and even though I wish it was once a week, I am happy to have a real art teacher who knows more about art than me!

We all still need to work on being speedy on our math (addition/subtraction) facts, so we can move into multiplication in the next couple of weeks.

Our Cricket in Times Square projects are on display either in our classroom or in the back display cabinet.

We started Science and Social Studies this week - and the children seem to enjoy going across the hall for that 45 minutes!

Don't forget about the Book It project due the end of the month and collecting those AR points too!

Have a great one and encourage your children to leave comments online!

:-)

Located here are the pictures from today's Chinese Feast! The kids had a great time, and should be full until December... everything was eaten and there was no leftovers!

Thank you to everyone for donating and/or volunteering! I look forward to having you all in the classroom again, or at a time in the future.

Have a great weekend:)

Study Island

Me again...

The children have been working on Study Island here at school. The website consists of test prep questions, and games to play for practicing the material. I log in and see the children's progress and what they need to work on based on how they do online. They can log on at home and play (wow - a computer game they can play that is for school!!!!).

Have fun!

PS - I told them if they print their reports (or you sign off in their assignment books), I will reward them tickets for playing at home!

First Day of School Picture!

I thought everyone would be interested in the picture I took on the first day of school. It is not in large poster size located on the wall behind our sink. The kids look at it often!

I'll take more at today's Chinese Feast and post those this weekend:)

Thursday

Hello out there! Right now I am sitting here watching the children work on a couple of final projects for The Cricket in Times Sqaure. They all loved the book, as do I. The children are so creative and have come up with some great answers... they are now awarding awards for Best Solution to a Problem, Best Quote, Funniest Part, Best New Word, and more. The best part is, they have to write 2-3 sentences explaining why they gave that award.

I'm looking forward to our feast tomorrow, and the projects on Monady.

ALSO - Starting next week, the students will be going to Mrs. Domizi on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Social Studies. I will be teaching Science Mondays and Wednesdays. I am looking forward to this new adventure!

Have a great day!
